Bleak picture for drunk driving in San Antonio this year

SAN ANTONIO — Even though they implemented a no-refusal policy for suspected drunk drivers in San Antonion, officials with the Texas Department of Transportation paint a bleak picture about DWI.

In 2012, the state saw more then 3,000 alcohol related accident alone. 531 of those happened in San Antonio, including 44 deaths.

Despite having a no-refusal policy, Josh Donay of TXDOT said people are still trying to push the limits.

“Buzzed driving is still drunk driving and ultimately the key to safety is with the drivers here so until the drivers figure out ‘Hey I’ve had a drink’ this problem probably isn’t going to go away,” said Donay.
