4 murders in 3 days in Long Beach

A 27 year old man was playing basketball when he was gunned down and killed in Long Beach on Saturday. This makes the 4th murder in the city in only 3 days. Jackie Bezart, a Long Beach City Police Officer, said the incidents do not appear to be related.

The incident on Saturday happened while Garrett Norris was playing basketball on the corner of Temple Avenue and Spaulding Street late afternoon. Two male suspects tried to steal his stuff and run off. He chased them into a nearby alley, until one suspect turned around and shot him in the stomach. He was pronounced dead in the hospital.

On Friday, around 9:20 P.M., police were called out after people reported shots fired in the 1300 block of Junipero Avenue. When they arrived they found 25 year old Darong Yi dead from multiple gunshot wounds in the drivers seat of his vehicle. Police do not have any descriptions of the gunman.

On Thursday police found the body of 21 year old Kate Sue Yi strangled to death in her apartment. She lived on the 700 block of Bellflower Blvd.

Earlier Thursday Okpara Wright, 35, was shot to death in what was possibly a gang related attack. The shootings took place at a gas station just after midnight. Allegedly Wright and another man were arguing with a group of men outside the gas station on the 5400 block of Atlantic Blvd when the incident occured. He was was in the torso, and died on the scene.

Boyfriend of slain Cal State Long Beach student is arrested

The boyfriend of a college student who was strangled to death has been arrested in the woman’s death, according to police.

The lifeless body of 20-year-old Kate Yi was discovered Thursday by her roommate in their Long Beach apartment, police said.

Detectives learned that the Cal State Long Beach student had quarreled with her boyfriend, Jonathan Huynh,  and tracked him to the city of Orange. Huynh, 20, who was not enrolled at the university, was arrested Friday without incident, according to Long Beach police.
