Sheriff Deputy in O.C. Convicted of DUI

Mark Wayne Hewlett, 30, of Orange County Sheriff’s Dept was convicted and sentanced to 3 years probation for a DUI charge. He pled guilty to 3 misdemeanors in exchange for the probationary offer by an Orange County Superior Court Commisioner.

He will have to pay over a $1,000 fine, attend a three month alcohol program, and attend a Mothers Against Drunk Driving victim panel. He also may get the third misdemeanor, possesion of a controlled substance, dismissed if he attend a court drug program for first offenders.

Hewlett was driving home from a friends when at 1:45 a.m. he lost control of his vehicle, drove over a curb, across a lawn, and collided with a planter in front of a home. The home happenened to belong to Orange County Supervisor Bill Campbell. According to the prosecutors, Hewlett got the minimum term for a driving under the influence conviction.

Famous Artist Thomas Kinkade busted for DUI

Less than 2 weeks after one of his companies, Pacific Metro of Morgan Hill, filled for bankruptcy, Thomas Kinkade was busted for suspicion of driving under the influence. Shortly after 9pm on Friday Kinkade was pulled over when an officer noticed that his 2006 Mercedes didnt have a front license plate. After pulling over Kinkade, the officer suspected he had been drinking, and called in a CHP officer to help.

Man arrested for 14th DUI

Mark Hoffman, of Lincoln, was arrested recently after running a red light and colliding with another car. Hoffman, 53 years old, had his license revoked in 2007 and reinstated in Feb of 2008, even after having 13 prior DUIs. His BAC measured .112%, which is over the 0.08% limit.
Police Chief Tom Casady said Hoffman was first arrested for driving under the influence in 1975 when he was just 19 years old. Casady posted this comment later on his blog ” “Don’t ask me how a guy with 13 prior drunk driving convictions is ever able to get a driver’s license again because I have no clue.”

Women driving under the influence, even with kids, on the rise

It is sad, but a tragic accident in New York is putting the spotlight on women and drinking and driving. In recent years, the amount of women that have been driving drunk and being arrested for DUI has risen, but the most shocking part is how many of those women are driving with kids in the cars. The accident in New York left 8 people dead, 4 of them children, after a head on collision. The women driving the car that caused the accident had 5 children in the car with her.
According to Westchester Police Commissioner Commissioner Thomas Belfiore, “”Our officers are encountering more women while they are driving drunk and, in many instances, with their children in the car.” In the years from 1998 until 2007, almost across our entire nation, the amount of women being pulled over for drunk driving or driving under the influence rose 29%.

PGA Tour’s Johnson of Myrtle Beach charged with DUI

Dustin Johnson of Myrtle Beach, one of the PGA Tour’s rising stars, was charged with driving under the influence on Monday morning in Surfside Beach.

According to Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins of the S.C. Highway Patrol, Johnson was stopped in a black sport utility vehicle by a Highway Patrol officer for a traffic violation at 1 a.m. Monday on Glenns Bay Road.

“The officer determined Mr. Johnson was driving under the influence and he was arrested,” Collins said.

Johnson, 24, was booked at 11:28 a.m. at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center in Conway and released on a personal recognizance bond 22 minutes later, according to a jail official and records. It is unclear where Johnson was held until the bond hearing.

Long Beach City Council Candidate Bill Grisolia still facing DUI Charges

LONG BEACH - A spokesman for the Los Angeles City Attorney
said Long Beach’s First District City Council Candidate Bill Grisolia is still facing two charges for driving under the influence of alcohol. This contradicted statements earlier mentioned by Grisolias representative.
The incident occured on Jan 24 in San Pedro, which is why it is being prosecuted by the L.A. City Attorneys Office, spokesman Frank Matelijan said. The two charges he faces are driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a BAC (blood alcohol concentration) above .08%.
