No Alcohol policy enforced by Dodgers

There is a crack down at Dodgers stadium on fans who try to bring alcohol onto the stadiums property, including the parking lot. They are going to beef up the signage and amount of security partols in the parking lots to enfore the no alcohol policy. Any violators are subject to ejection from the property.
The signs are going to be posted in both English and Spanish starting with their first home game on April 30th.
Alcohol sales are stopped at the end of the seventh inning of every game. Earlier this month they lowered the price of beer from $8 down to $6. Charles Steinberg, Dodgers executive vice president said, “In the isolated cases of fan behavior that isn’t OK, alcohol abuse is often the issue. Sometimes it’s the degree to which people have consumed alcohol before coming to the game.”

Highland park displays the dangers of drinking and driving

Richard Calderon said he was surprised and thankful that everything for the display (pictured above) was donated by local businesses. (EGP Photo by Edgar Rascon)

Richard Calderon of Reina’s Insurance Agency in Highland park says that the idea just popped into his head.
The idea came to him after he was bothered by the amount of alcohol related accidents he was seeing in his list of new claims from clients. Everyday he gets a new list, and there are more and more every time. At least once a month he would have a claim related to a major accident involving alcohol. Caldreron said, “I see these claims and just think, what a waster, because they are completely preventable.”

He decided to do something about it, and came up with a plan to display a crashed car near his office. Posted near the car is a sign reminding people not to drink and drive.  He even went a step further and got other local businesses to participate. He hopes that the visuals of what drinking and driving can cause will leave a lasting impression on everyone who drives by.

Waves may return to Long Beach shores

We may see waves once again in Long Beach, if our local Congresswoman gets her wishes. Rep Laura Richardson is trying to get $30,000 of federal funding to finish stage one of Long Beach breakwater’s reconnaissance study according to the Long Beach Press-Telegram. The money would help finish the study on removing part of the articifical breakwater at Long Beach Hardbor.

The 2.5 mile Long Beach Breakwater has been federally owned under the control of the Army Corps of Engineers since 1941. The breakwatver prevents significant waves from hitting city beaches, where they were once world famous for surfing.

The Surfrider Foundation, along with other environmental groups, are attempting to remove the rocks from the eastern section, and return waves to most of the beach and increase ocean currents in the artificial port. This would also help flush out water pollution from the Los Angeles River.

The breakwater is presumed to help reduce the risk of flooding in the Belmont Shore area, as well as along the Peninsula and Naples Island.

Fun, Games, Pizza, and Beer at Chucky Cheese’s

The Illinois Liquor Control Commision partnered up with Police to undercover sting earlier this month to try and find locations outside Chicago that are selling alcohol to minors. The sent underage students into different locations to try and order booze. The undercover teenagers were served without being carded at none other then Chucky Cheese’s. According to reports, around 70% of all Chucky Cheese’s serve wine and beer. Guess their slogan “Where A Kid can be a Kid”, should be extended to say “and anyone who wants a beer will be served.”
